Built by a seeker who couldn't find the class.

Why this exists

I live in Canada, and for years I had nowhere to go to learn this religion. I was lost in many ways — not sure where the journey of learning Islam even starts. Eventually I found what the ummah has always known: the learning of the Quran and its aspects is where every Muslim begins, and the other sciences open from there. That is the correct order, and I had found it — but I could not find comprehensive, highly qualified Quran classes or teachers within my region. Travelling to seek knowledge is difficult for a multitude of reasons. And the online space is hard to trust, because you don't know who to trust.

One thing was sure: relying on Allah ﷻ to guide you to the truth — the true Islam, the way the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ lived it, the way the companions lived it, and those who followed in their footsteps — makes the finding easier. With that reliance, I found people who practise this religion as it was lived, and who teach it not to compel anyone but for the sake of Allah ﷻ, seeking His face and His pleasure.

These people are very far and few. And they need support to be able to serve this religion. Helping those who help this religion — by spreading the knowledge of the Quran — is a great service, and one worth taking on. That is Mudrus: built so that others do not face the barriers I faced, by supporting the people who removed them for me.

Through this, إن شاء الله, knowledge of the Quran will reach places and people it has not reached before, and produce khair for this ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in ways only Allah ﷻ knows.

Mudrus manages the Qur'an class — beginning with hifdh — with aims for future expansion into platforming the teaching of other Islamic Sciences.

Paper is not the enemy.

A paper register is fast, needs no battery, and has kept the memorisation of the Quran for centuries longer than any software will. What it cannot do is show a parent their child's progress on a Tuesday evening, survive a teacher moving away, or tell an administrator which four students have quietly stopped turning up. Mudrus is not a replacement for the discipline of the ledger — it is the same ledger, legible to more people, in more places, for longer.

Why the tiers carry these names.

Halaqah, Suffah, Maktab, Madrasa. Not Starter, Pro, Business, Enterprise. Each names a real institution of Islamic learning, in ascending order of scale, and each meaning is printed on the pricing page rather than assumed. A mosque administrator should recognise the shape of their own institution in the name of what they are paying for.
